Born in 1989, Tiago Leal began his music studies with the Electrical Guitar, and later the Classical Guitar at the Conservatório de Musica do Porto, in the class of Mário Carreira, who instilled in him a taste for early music. Moved by his desire to perform the earlier repertoire, he went on to study the Lute, Theorbo and the Baroque Guitar in ESMAE (Escola superior de Musica e Artes do Espetáculo) under the orientation of teachers Ronaldo Lopes and Hugo Sanches. In addition to that, he had the opportunity to work with first class musicians like Amandine Beyer, Ana Mafalda Castro, Pedro Sousa Silva and Xurxu Varela. He graduated from ESMAE with very high classification (19 out of 20 possible points)

He participated in several masterclasses by world renowned lutenists, such has Eugène Ferré and Hopkinson Smith.

As a freelance musician he has performed with various ensembles in Portugal, Spain, France, Switzerland and Poland, either has a continuist or in other formations. In addition, he’s been active as a teacher since 2010.

He continued his studies at ESMUC (Escuela Superior de Musica de Catalunya) with Xavier Diaz-Latorre and Monica Pustilnik, and is currently doing a Performance Master at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in Switzerland, Basel.
